I knew I had to be in L.A. so I quit my job, moved halfway across the country, and was instantly drawn to the Center. After several interviews, I was hired onto the Senior Services team—the only position I applied for in L.A.
Working at the Center, I get to do my part to keep our community from suffering the effects of systemic homophobia—something I faced as a youth in the Midwest.
There are so many incredible people whom I have met and have worked with while in Senior Services and, more recently, as a member of the Center’s Special Events team.
A highlight for me during my years here took place this past spring when several of my Center colleagues from other departments came together to help Special Events execute the grand opening of the Anita May Rosenstein Campus. Events come with their own set of stressors, especially when it involves 5,000-7,000 people on the 1100-block of N. McCadden Pl where the Campus is located. The expanded Special Events team that formed truly was greater than the sum of its parts, and they made it look easy.
Participating in the life-changing and live-saving work of the Center not only helps ensure that LGBT people thrive as healthy, equal, and complete members of society, it most likely will change your life, too.
