I had a background with community nonprofits when I first moved to Los Angeles but found myself working at a financial institution. The whole time I was there, I wanted to be somewhere more people-centered—a place like the Los Angeles LGBT Center.
I had become familiar with the Center, had a few friends working there already, and it seemed like it would be a good fit for me. It has been! I enjoy working here and knowing that the world is just a little better because of my efforts. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March, I’ve been splitting my time between going into the office twice a week and working from home the other three days.
The Center is providing much-needed services to our community during this unprecedented time as much as during normal times. It means so much to see all our clients coming to us still for their health needs. We do temperature checks at the front door of Health Services when people come in for their appointments or to visit the pharmacy. I’m an extrovert so doing these screenings provides me with all the social interaction I need to recharge.
