As a 16-year-old junior in high school, I can confidently say that I have so much more to learn. But Los Angeles LGBT Center’s many initiatives have quickly taught me the value and purpose of an accepting and loving community and that allowing yourself to feel loved and accepted gives you a larger capacity to love and accept others.
I have a deep passion for LGBTQ+ equity, inclusion, and success and became a Center volunteer to support the community I hold so dear. By helping fellow members of the LGBTQ+ community, the Center has provided me with an outlet to express my passion for social welfare.
As a Hello Club volunteer, I have had the pleasure of speaking with Center seniors on the telephone during the COVID-19 pandemic. My goal is to supply them with valuable resources and minimize any feelings of isolation.
I deeply cherish these conversations and hearing the seniors’ life experiences has broadened my perspective immensely. I’ve learned that life is too short to be someone else. I will carry their valuable wisdom and sage advice with me as I move forward into my young adult years.
I would encourage anyone to become a Center volunteer. We work not only to embrace and assist clients, but each other.
